West Lothian Council
West Lothian Council is the largest public sector employer in the area, with more than 8,000 employees delivering more than 100 services to a population of around 160,000 citizens and businesses.
The council is committed to making the area a great place to live, work and do business, through supporting enterprise and tourism, improving roads and schools, looking after older people, and improving the environment.
In June 2007 the council became the first unitary local authority in the UK to be awarded a Corporate Charter MarkĀ - the government's award for excellent customer service.
The council also holds a Charter Mark for every service. In 2006 the council received the accolade UK Council of the Year "Striving for excellence" is the council's mission statement. It believes that its employees are its greatest asset in delivering services to people in West Lothian and holds a council-wide Investor in People standard.
The area is one of the few in Scotland which has a growing population and this is set to continue. This is reflected in the fact that over the next 10 years around 12,000 new homes will be built.
The council is also committed to protecting and improving the environment for the people who live, work, and do business in West Lothian.
