The Scottish Children's Reporter Administration (SCRA)

The Scottish Children’s Reporter Administration (SCRA) is the national body responsible for providing a world class care and justice system for all Scotland’s children.  SCRA became fully operational on 1 April 1996 and our main responsibilities are to:

  • Facilitate the work of Children’s Reporters
  • Deploy and manage staff to carry out that work
  • Provide suitable accommodation for Children’s Hearings

The Children’s Hearings System is unique to Scotland and was established in 1971 to address the needs and behaviour of children and young people who face serious problems in their lives.  These problems can include, for example, a child committing an offence, the child’s parents having difficulty looking after them or a child failing to attend school.
