West Lothian - joining up public services

Civic Centre office moves

Work has started on moving staff around the Civic Centre.  This is in line with the office accommodation strategy.  The aim is to maximise the use of space and improve efficiency within the building.  A recent study within the Civic Centre reported in excess of 30% free desk space at any one time.  These empty desks are valuable resources which will be used to ensure the successful deployment of our Worksmart strategy.

Jack Orr, estates manager, explained: "The new layouts are designed to use the full capacity of the Civic Centre and create new work areas for colleagues who will be relocating here during the next phase of the building rationalisation. Floor layouts have been standardised and agreed by Heads of Service and reflect recent changes in the Corporate Management Team.  The majority of the moves will be within the same area with desks only moving a few feet.  Other moves will result in staff being relacted to another floor/wing.

"Work to move desks, computers and cabinets will be completed over the weekends by an external contractor and IT staff will be on hand on the Monday following each move. Once this programme of moves is complete and the additional work stations sited, work will start on scheduling staff moves from other council buildings into the Civic Centre."

Parking at the Civic Centre:  At the front of the building there are 18 short-term parking spaces (half hour) and parking for people with blue badges.  At the east entrance there is a staff car park. Heads of Service allocate these spaces to members of their teams on a priority basis.  Your Head of Service will advise you if you have been allocated a space .  Your ID card will allow you access to the car park via a barrier system (unless you have been advised that other arrangements have been made for your service).   If you have not been allocated a space you will not have access.

There are two free car parks on Howden South Road with 45 and 55 spaces respectively and 288 spaces at the Terrace Car Park and you can use Lammermuir House Car Park.  The Civic Centre is a short walk from the Terrace Car Park with bridges leading to the main entrance via Almondvale Boulevard and Civic Square and the east staff entrance . Please do not park in the residential areas surrounding the Civic Centre.

Visitors parking: if you invite people to the Civic Centre please provide instructions on where to park and how to walk to the main entrance (this could be the Terrace Car Park or parking at The Centre).  There are currently no visitor parking spaces at the Civic Centre.
